Caulfield Synagogue Tuesday Shmoozeday

An illustrated presentation on the writing, artwork and research behind The Family with Two Front Doors, a story based on the childhood of the author’s grandmother. This was a follow-up to a 2015 visit when Anna interviewed the elderly members of the Shmoozeday group for help with research on the book. 

Eltham Bookshop Chatterbooks

A fun family event where the audience found out the story behind The Family with Two Front Doors, tasted honey cake, and learnt how to braid a 6-stranded challah bread 

Jewish Genealogical Society

Anna revealed the fascinating detective story of her quest for historical and genealogical details about her family. Working firstly from her home in Melbourne and then embarking on a research trip to Poland, she found the answers and incorporated them into her novel. This talk included practical details applicable to the Jewish audience.  

Limmud Oz Festival

In this presentation about recreating the lost Jewish world of pre-war Poland, Anna revealed the emotions and surprises of her research trips to Lublin and Warsaw, and the intimate, vivid details she unveiled about life before the war.

Authors Anna Ciddor and Hazel Edwards discussed the risks and challenges of writing stories about ‘Them’, whether it’s a children’s novel about Hassidic Jews in pre-war Poland or a young adult novel about transitioning gender. Moderated by Michele Bernshaw.
